The Cataclysm expansion pack offers a wider variety of gems than was already available, making jewel-craft one of the most profitable World of Warcraft skills there is. With Cataclysm, the level of all potential craft levels has been raised even further than previous expansion packs. These gems come in several different colors, and each color has an uncommon form and a rare form.

The properties of the gem depends on both its type and the different descriptors that are used in its title. Red gems will be found as rubies or carnelians and will be described as perfect, flashing, delicate, brilliant, bold and precise. Affected here would be your expertise rating, your parry rating, your agility, your strength and your intellect.

The yellow gems can be an alicite or an amberjewel, and will be some combination of smooth, perfect, subtle, quick, fractured and mystic. These minerals give you extra critical strike rating, dodge rating, haste, mastery and resilience rating. Blue will be either a zephyrite or a sapphire, which can be described as rigid, perfect, stormy, sparkling and solid. Blue will affect your hit rating, your spell penetration, your spirit and your stamina.

There are also secondary color minerals that incorporate two of the primary colors, and there are far more descriptors used for these. The first of these is the green type, which of course combines blue and yellow, and these are either jasper or emerald. With these, you can alter your critical strike rating, your dodge rating, your haste rating, your mastery rating, your resilience rating, hit rating, stamina and spirit.

Orange is red and yellow, and brings hessonite and topaz. Expertise rating, intellect, agility, strength, parry rating, dodge rating, critical strike rating, resilience rating and mastery rating are all affected with these gems.

Purple is blue mixed with red and here you have a choice between nightshade and demonseye. Possible changes can be applied to agility, expertise rating, intellect, parry rating, strength, hit rating and stamina.
